Ignition Control Module: Service and Repair


WM 282020 Removing and installing bar ignition modules

Preliminary work

1. Switch ignition off and remove ignition key
2. Remove design cover on bar ignition modules on both sides. -> 108319 Removing and installing engine cover (design cover) 108319 Removing and installing engine cover (design cover).

1. Disconnect electric plug connection for oxygen sensors in front of cylinder 4. Loosen cable plug from the holder. => Pulling off connectors

2. Release and pull off cable plugs => Cable plugs for bar ignition modules. Remove screws from bar ignition modules and replace them (aluminium screws). => Fastening screw on bar ignition module

3. Remove bar ignition modules. => Bar ignition module

3.1. Remove the bar ignition module for cylinder 3 by turning it under the torque support.
3.2. Remove the bar ignition module for cylinder 4.
3.3. Remove the bar ignition module for cylinder 8 by turning it past the B+ line. Press the B+ line aside slightly while doing this (upper part of cable is released).

Installing bar ignition modules

Information

- The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally. -> 1001IN Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications. Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

1. Fit aluminium screws on the bar ignition modules (use new aluminium screws) => Fastening screws on bar ignition modules. Fit cable plugs. => Cable plugs for bar ignition modules

2. Follow the instructions in reverse order for removal.

Subsequent work

1. Re-fit design cover for bar ignition modules. -> 108319 Removing and installing engine cover (design cover) 108319 Removing and installing engine cover (design cover).
