Preliminary work for removing and installing upper trailing arm (steel springs)

1. Remove wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

3. Remove air-cleaner box. -> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing upper trailing arm (steel springs)

1. Unclip ABS wire harness -1- at the body -A-.

2. Remove level sensor holder from the upper axle support. -> 431855 Replacing front level sensor - section on "Removing" 431855 Replacing front level sensor
3. Loosen fastening screws -1- from the upper axle support -2-.

4. Remove axle support.

Installing upper trailing arm (steel springs)

Information

- All screws and bolts on the axle must be tightened in vehicle position. Vehicle position means: vehicle resting on its wheels, or the wheel suspension is lifted with a universal jack. -Dimension X- from lower edge of wing to centre of axle corresponds to vehicle position. For the current height values, please refer to the adjustment values for suspension alignment -> 4495TW Adjustment values for suspension alignment 4495TW Adjustment values for suspension alignment.





Dimension -X-: lower edge of wing to centre of axle (shown as an example)

- Visually inspect all parts.

- Replace self-locking nuts.

- Replace all expansion screws (screws fitted using torque angle tightening procedure).

- Use correct tightening torques and torque angle. -> 4X00IN Tightening torques for front axle 4X00IN Tightening torques for front axle

Information

- Always check the installation dimension when installing the upper axle support.

The dimension is measured as follows:

- Centre of ball joint (upper side)

- To the lower double panel (panel closest to the control arm)

1. Fit axle support -2- and screw in fastening screws -1-. -> 4X00IN Tightening torques for front axle 4X00IN Tightening torques for front axle
The ball joint pin must be pointing downwards.

2. Always check that the upper axle support is fitted in installation position.
Installation position dimension -X- : => Length: 118.5 mm+/-6 mm
- Upper side of ball joint -1-
- Double panel -2-


3. Fit level sensor holder on upper axle support. -> 431855 Replacing front level sensor - section on "Installing" 431855 Replacing front level sensor
4. Clip in ABS wire harness -1- at the body -A-.
