Preliminary work

1. Remove the front-axle carrier. -> 400619 Removing and installing front axle carrier 400619 Removing and installing front-axle carrier

WARNING

Danger of objects or loads falling down

- Risk of squashing or crushing

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Information

Observe the following sequence for removing and installing the engine mounting.

- Remove right engine mounting

- Remove left engine mounting

- Install left engine mounting

- Install right engine mounting

1. Remove the primary catalytic converter on the right side.

2. Loosen fastening screw on the ground cable for the engine on the front right frame carrier (accessible above the right wheel housing).

NOTICE

Risk of straining engine parts

- Hoses, cables or other flexibly routed components can break and tear.

-> Carefully lower the engine one step at a time.
-> Check fitted parts at intervals for signs of strain or cracks.

3. Turn the wing screw on the suspending device anti-clockwise and lower the engine.

4. Loosen the three fastening screws on the heat shield for the final drive.

5. Remove heat shield and screws.

6. Press against the engine mounting from below and loosen the fastening nuts on the engine mounting.

7. Remove the engine mounting and nuts from the guide.

1. Loosen the four fastening screws on the heat shield for the final drive.

2. Remove heat shield and screws.

3. Press against the engine mounting from below and loosen the fastening nuts on the engine mounting.

4. Remove the engine mounting and nuts from the guide.

Information

The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally. -> 1001IN Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications. Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

1. Guide engine mounting into the receptacle provided for it.
2. Guide the engine mounting guide pin into the groove provided for it so that it can no longer pop out.

3. Press against the engine mounting from below and tighten the fastening nuts on the engine mounting using connecting piece Nr.89 Pos.3.
4. Fit the heat shield.

5. Fit and tighten the four fastening screws for the heat shield.

Installing right engine mounting

Information

Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

1. Guide engine mounting into the receptacle provided for it.
2. Guide the engine mounting guide pin into the groove provided for it so that it can no longer pop out.

3. Press against the engine mounting from below and tighten the fastening nuts on the engine mounting (use a socket ring wrench a/f 18).
4. Fit the heat shield.

5. Fit and tighten the three fastening screws for the heat shield.
6. Turn the wing screw on the suspending device clockwise and lift the engine into its original position.

7. Fit the ground cable for the engine on the front right frame carrier (accessible above the right wheel housing).
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
8. Re-install the primary catalytic converter on the right side.

Subsequent work
