Preliminary work for battery
Information
The AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery is a maintenance-free, sealed battery.
- This battery must not be opened. If the battery is opened, it must be replaced.
- There is a serial number and a part number on the top of the battery at the right-hand side.

- If the battery is replaced, both numbers must be entered in the gateway control unit under: Gateway/Maintenance, repairs/Change battery.
- The battery size and battery manufacturer must also be entered when changing the battery.
1. Open the luggage compartment floor.
2. Remove tool kit tray.

Removing battery
Information
Switch off all loads and remove the ignition key.
- Do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
- Disconnect and reconnect battery with extreme caution.
- Do not rub the battery with a dry cloth.
The battery is located in the luggage compartment under the luggage compartment cover/toolbox tray.
1. Pull off vent hose -A- on the battery.

2. Risk of short circuit! First disconnect the negative cable -1- , then the positive -2-.

3. Unscrew the two fastening screws -3- on the retaining bar -4- and the two fastening screws -5- for the rail -6-.

4. Unscrew the two fastening screws -6- and remove the retaining bar.
5. Lift the battery up and out.
Installing battery
1. Insert and position the battery.
2. Position the rail -6- under the battery and fit the retaining bar -4-.

3. Fit the four fastening screws -3 and 5- and screw them in by hand.
4. Tighten the fastening screws -3-. => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
5. Tighten the fastening screws. => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
6. Risk of short circuit! First connect the positive cable -2- , then the negative -1-.

7. Tighten the terminal clamps. => Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)
Subsequent work
Subsequent work for battery

2. If a new battery was installed, the new battery must be documented in the gateway control unit using the PIWIS Tester 9718.

4. Fit tool kit tray.
5. Close the luggage compartment floor.
