Preliminary work

1. Disconnect the battery. -> 2X00IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
2. Remove front apron. -> 631519 Removing and installing front apron - section on "Removing" m
3. Remove front retaining strips. -> 631719 Removing and installing front retaining strip - section on "Removing"
4. Remove lower part of front lid lock. -> 551719 Removing and installing lower part of front lid lock - section on "Removing"
5. Remove horn.
6. Remove distance measuring sensor. -> 278519 Removing and installing control unit for distance measuring sensor - section on "Removing"

Information

Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.

1. Pull air intake pipe (two on the V8) and sound absorber forward out of the lock carrier.

2. Unscrew fastening screw -1- and remove the lock support in an upward direction.

3. Loosen the lock carrier.
3.1. Unscrew fastening screws -2- for the bumper.

3.2. Unscrew fastening screw -3- for the radiator at the top.
3.3. Unscrew fastening screw -4- for the body.
4. Press the actuating cable -5- for the lid lock at the bottom back through the lock carrier.

5. Disconnect electric plug connections.
5.1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -6- for the wire harness on the left side.

5.2. Unclip electric plug connections (if additional equipment is fitted) -7- on the left side from the bracket and release and disconnect them.
5.3. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -8- on the right side.

5.4. Unclip temperature sensor from the air guide.
6. Remove lock carrier.

Installing lock carrier

Installing lock carrier

1. Place lock carrier over the air guide and position it.
2. Press the actuating cable -5- for the lid lock at the bottom front forward through the lock carrier.

3. Connect electric plug connections.
3.1. Plug in electric plug connections -6- for the wire harness on the left side and lock them until they engage securely.

3.2. Plug in electric plug connections (for additional equipment) -7- on the left side and lock them until they engage securely.
3.3. Clip electric plug connections (for additional equipment) -7- into the bracket.
3.4. Plug in electric plug connections -8- on the right side and lock them until they engage securely.

3.5. Clip temperature sensor into the air guide.
4. Secure lock carrier.
4.1. Screw in fastening screws -2- , -3- and -4-.

4.2. Tighten fastening screws -2- for the bumper to -> Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)+/-1 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.).
4.3. Tighten fastening screw -3- for the radiator to -> Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)+/-0.5 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.).
4.4. Tighten fastening screw -4- for the body to -> Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)+/-0.5 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.).
5. Insert lock support and tighten fastening screw -1- to -> Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)+/-1 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.).

6. Insert air intake pipe (two on the V8) and sound absorber into the air cleaner housing through the lock carrier.

Subsequent work

1. Only with charge air cooler

2. Install horn. -> 905019 Removing and installing horn - section on "Installing"
3. Install distance measuring sensor. -> 278519 Removing and installing control unit for distance measuring sensor
4. Install lower part of front lid lock. -> 551719 Removing and installing lower part of front lid lock - section on "Installing"
5. Install front retaining strips. -> 631719 Removing and installing front retaining strip - section on "Installing"
6. Install front apron. -> 631519 Removing and installing front apron - section on "Installing"
7. Connect the battery. -> 2X00IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
