Message: "Warning Brake Fluid Level" - Replacing Sensor and Brake Fluid Reservoir (97/11)
Model year: as of 2011 up to 2012
Information
^ Document with limited validity
This Quick Information is valid until further notice or until December 31, 2012.
Vehicle Type: Cayenne/Cayenne S/Cayenne Turbo/Cayenne Diesel/Cayenne Hybrid
Concerns: Brake fluid reservoir sensor
Information:
"Warning Brake fluid level" in instrument cluster.
Information
For precise fault cause analysis for the message "Warning Brake fluid level" in the instrument cluster, the parts will be requested.
Both parts, sensor and brake fluid reservoir, must be
- replaced completely and
- returned in their original packaging
- to Porsche.
Parts Info:
958.355.113.00 --> Brake fluid reservoir (complete with sensor)
Work Procedure:
1. Open hood to service position. --> 553119 Removing and installing front pneumatic spring - section on "Removing"
2. Remove left cross panel. --> 508119 Removing and installing cross panel - section on "Removing"
Information
^ Before disconnecting the brake lines, place a clean absorbent cloth underneath.
^ Close off brake lines with a suitable plug immediately after disconnecting.
Information
^ In the event of assembly work at the hydraulic connections, all electric plug connections in the area of the connection point must always be connected. This prevents the inside of the plug connections from being splashed with brake fluid or water.
^ Clean any plug connections that have become dirty or damp during removal and fitting using a lint-free cloth, for example.
^ Brake fluid on electrical contacts (even thinned brake fluid) leads to corrosion and may cause faults in the system.
^ Remove any escaping brake fluid immediately; rinse with water and dry thoroughly if necessary.
3. Release the sieve filter -1- using a suitable tool -2- and remove it from the brake fluid reservoir -3- .

4. Drain the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir using a suitable tool, e.g. a double-action hand pump.
5. Removing brake fluid reservoir:
5.1 Loosen the fastening screw -1- used to secure the brake fluid reservoir -2- to the brake master cylinder -3-.

6. Remove rubber seals -1- from the brake master cylinder -2- and replace them if necessary.
7. Installing new brake fluid reservoir:
7.1 Press the brake fluid reservoir -2- into the brake master cylinder -2- (-arrow-).
7.2 Fit the fastening screw -1- used to secure the brake fluid reservoir -2- to the brake master cylinder -3- . --> 4X00IN Tightening torques for brake hydraulics
8. Insert the sieve filter -1- into the brake fluid reservoir -3-.
9. Install left cross panel. --> 508119 Removing and installing cross panel - section on "Installing"
10. Change the brake fluid. --> 470855 Changing brake fluid
11. Close hood. --> 553119 Removing and installing front pneumatic spring - section on "Installing"
End of remedial action.
