Preliminary work

DANGER

Vehicle raised incorrectly.

- Danger of fatal injury or material damage should the vehicle fall down.

-> Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
-> 4X00IN01 Lifting the vehicle

Information

- Take care to maintain access to the screws for the diagonal struts in the vicinity of the rear jacking points.

2. Remove rear underbody panelling.

3. Remove support plate.

Removing rear-axle cross member

1. Remove restraining cables on rear-axle cross member.

Loosen and screw off nuts -1- and remove restraining cables from the rear-axle cross member -arrows-.
2. Remove heat protection cover at the right.

Screw off nuts -1- and remove heat protection cover -2-.
3. Remove rear-axle cross member.
3.1. Unclip electric plug connections on the rear-axle cross member at the left and right.





Oxygen sensor connectors

Unclip electric plug connections -1- for the oxygen sensors on the rear-axle cross member at the left and right from the brackets. Unclip line -2- from the bracket.
3.2. Unscrew screws -1- (M10 x 45) on the rear-axle cross member -2- and remove rear-axle cross member -2-.





Rear-axle cross member

Be careful with the bracket for the headlight levelling system.

Installing rear-axle cross member

Information

- After installing the rear-axle cross member, suspension alignment must be performed because the wheel alignment values of the rear axle might no longer be within the permitted tolerance range after removing and installing the rear-axle cross member.

1. Install rear-axle cross member.
1.1. Fit rear-axle cross member -2- and screw in and tighten screws -1- (M10 x 45) on the rear-axle cross member -2-.





Rear-axle cross member

Be careful with the bracket for the headlight levelling system.
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
1.2. Clip in electric plug connections on the rear-axle cross member.





Oxygen sensor connectors

Clip electric plug connections -1- for the oxygen sensors on the rear-axle cross member at the left and right into the brackets.
2. Install heat protection cover at the right.





Heat protection cover

Fit heat protection cover -2- and screw on and tighten nuts -1-.
3. Fit restraining cables on rear-axle cross member.





Restraining cables

Fit restraining cables into the rear-axle cross member -arrows- and screw on and tighten nuts -1-.
=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Install support plate.

2. Install rear underbody panelling.

3. Carry out suspension alignment.
