SUBJECT : AIR PUMP PULLEY NOISE

The air pump pulley on some Renault Le Car R1229 models built prior to fabrication number 35500 may loosen creating engine noise.

Service correction involves verifying a loose pulley condition and retightening the pulley bolts to the proper torque during normal service such as at time of PDI, the 1,000 mile inspection, or at other scheduled maintenance intervals.

PROCEDURE:

1. Remove air cleaner.

2. Loosen air pump mounting bolts at bottom front and upper rear of air pump and remove mounting bolt at upper front of pump.

3. Rotate air pump outward to gain access to pulley bolts.

4. Hold pulley shaft with pliers to prevent it from turning and tighten air pump pulley bolts to 6.5 - 9.0 Nm (60 - 80 inch-pounds) torque.

5. Install and tighten air pump mounting bolts.

6. Adjust air pump belt tension to 4 mm using Renault Special Tool Ele. 346 or to 80 pounds using tools J-29550 or J-2360OB.

7. Install air cleaner.
