PROTECTIVE SLEEVE FOR WATER PUMP-TO-REMOTE FILL HOSE


Information

On some 1983 Alliance models built prior to VIN 1AMXXXXXXXX222965, the water pump-to-remote fill hose may rub against the alternator during normal hose flexing. This could result in wear of the hose outer surface.

A new hose with a nylon mesh protective sleeve is available and may be installed as follows if a wear condition exists.


Procedure

1. While performing an engine compartment service, check hose condition. Replace the hose as outlined in the following steps if the outer surface is excessively worn or scuffed. Do not replace the hose if it has a protective sleeve or is in good condition.

2. Drain approximately two quarts of coolant from the cooling system.

3. Remove the water pump-to-remote fill hose.

4. Install new hose 8933 001 315. Be sure the protective sleeve is positioned on the hose area most likely to contact the alternator.

5. Reconnect the water pump-to-remote fill hose. Fill and purge the cooling system as outlined on page B-31 of the M.R. 240.

6. Fill and purge the cooling system as outlined on page B-31 of the M.R. 240.
