Information
On some L42-M42 models, the lever gear that operates the air flap in the instrument panel fresh air outlet may not close the flap tightly enough. This could result in an air leak that is most noticeable when the outlet is closed and the blower motor running at maximum speed.
To eliminate the air leak, replace the air flap lever gear as outlined in the following procedure.
Filing Instructions
File this I.S. Note at the back of the plastic binder supplied with your M.R. 240 Manual.
FIGURE 1 - AIR FLAP LEVER GEAR INSTALLATION:
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fresh air outlet louver assembly using two small screwdrivers (Fig. 1). Insert the screwdrivers at the top of the assembly and pry downward and outward to disengage the louver.
2. Warm the lever gear retaining tabs with a forced air type heat gun. Then gently spread the tabs apart and remove the lever gear (Fig. 1).
3. Warm the lever gear retaining tabs again if necessary. Then quickly install the replacement lever gear while applying light-closing pressure on the air flap. Be sure to align the forward tooth of the lever gear with the forward teeth on the air flap gear (Fig. 1).
NOTE: After being warmed, the lever gear retaining tabs will return to normal position as they cool down.
4. Check lever gear operation before installing the louver assembly. Be sure the gear firmly closes the air flap. Remove the lever gear and realign the gear teeth if necessary.
5. Align and position the louver control knob fingers on the lever gear and install the louver assembly.
