VALVE BODY BUZZING NOISE

Information

On some Alliance/Encore models built prior to transaxle number 119039, normal fluid flow within the transmission valve body may cause the pressure regulator valve to vibrate producing a buzzing noise. The noise usually occurs during cold starts with the transmission in Park or Neutral.

Service correction involves replacing the original valve body separator plate with a new plate having a smaller pressure regulator feed orifice.

Procedure

1. Remove the valve body and separator plate. Refer to pages F-15 and F-16 in the M.R. 245 manual and pages F-10 and F-11 in the M.R. 240 manual for procedures.

2. Position the replacement separator plate and gaskets on the valve body and reinstall the valve body.

3. Check and adjust transmission oil pressure to 4.4 bars (64 psi) as outlined on page 11 of your T.A.M. . . manual.

NOTE: The pressure specification on page F-9 in the M.R. 240 and page F-14 in the M.R. 245 is incorrect. Change the pressure specification on these pages to read 4.4 bars (64 psi).
