III. Special Replacement Instructions For 1987 Models
Installation of Heater Core Quick-Connects and Hoses
1. Install the 90 degree quick-connect on the bottom heater core nipple (inlet) and the straight quick connect on the top nipple (outlet) of the heater core.
2. Install the supplied rubber bulkhead seal and retainer plate over the quick-connects with the supplied screws.
3. For vehicles with 1.7L or 2.0L engine: Remove the formed hose attached to the intake manifold nipple and replace it with the supplied formed hose. Install the hose to the manifold with the supplied clamp (Fig. 22a). Torque the clamp to 10 in. lbs. (1 N-m).
For vehicles with 1.4L engine: The new formed hose from the parts package is not required and will not fit on the 1.4L engine. For these vehicles, cut off the formed end of the existing lower hose (Fig. 22b).
4. Remove the straight heater hose from the transmission oil cooler for automatic transmissions or the straight tube for manual transmissions. Install the supplied straight hose to the oil cooler (or tube) with the supplied clamp. Torque the clamp to 10 in. lbs. (1 N-m).
5. Fill the heater core with coolant and install both hoses on the quick-connects as described in Section I.G.8. and continue with the procedure to reassemble interior components of the vehicle.
