Owner Letter

Dear Renault Alliance or Encore Vehicle Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 1983 through 1987 model Renault Alliance and Encore vehicles. The heater core, part of the vehicle's heating system, may fail and allow hot engine cooling system fluid and steam to enter the car passenger compartment. To correct the condition, the heater core must be replaced.

Your Alliance or Encore, identified on the enclosed form, requires heater core replacement service. We ask that you arrange for this service by your Jeep/Eagle dealer without delay. The service and required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.

The heater core is located in the center console. It could fail without prior warning allowing hot fluid to spray on the driver's legs, possibly causing severe burn injury. Also, steam could enter and fill the passenger compartment, causing loss of road visibility and the potential for an accident.

Replacement of the heater core will take about two hours to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:

^ Contact your Jeep/Eagle dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the service.

^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and the service that is required.
