Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

The airflow meter provides voltage to the control unit in proportion to the amount of air passing through it. Incoming air causes the sensor flap to move which in turn creates movement of the potentiometer wiper arm, causing the potentiometer to supply voltage to the control unit that is proportional to flap angle. The air temperature sensor provides the control unit with voltage proportional to air temperature. This voltage modifies the airflow potentiometer voltage, resulting in an output voltage that represents both density and volume of air entering combustion chambers.
