1. Disconnect battery cable and drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect washer hoses, mark position of bolts securing hinges to hood, support hood and remove bolts, then lift hood from vehicle.
3. Remove air intake assembly and radiator, and disconnect wiring from starter motor.
4. Mark and disconnect necessary vacuum hoses, electrical connectors, heater hoses, fuel pipes and throttle cables, noting position for installation.
5. Drain engine oil.
6. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold and remove support rod between engine and transaxle.
7. Remove flywheel cover and the torque converter to drive plate bolts, if equipped.
8. Remove water pump/alternator belt, crankshaft pulley, and hub.
9. Support engine cradle with jack and suitable block, Fig. 1, then remove cradle bolts.
10. On air conditioning equipped vehicles, remove compressor belt, pulley and compressor mounting bolts, and secure compressor aside.
11. Disconnect clutch cable at fork end.
12. Remove TDC sensor.
13. Remove 5 bolts connecting engine to transaxle.
14. Position suitable jack under right hand mounting pad to support transaxle and prevent it from tilting.
15. Install suitable lifting equipment and lift engine from engine compartment as follows:
a. On models less cruise control, move fuel pipe and bracket and attach suitable adapters to exhaust manifold.
b. On models with cruise control, remove cruise control cable and ignition coil cable brackets, and install suitable adapters in place of brackets.
c. Connect lift to adapters, raise engine and separate engine from transaxle.
d. Ensure all necessary components are disconnected, then remove engine from vehicle.
16. Reverse procedure to install, and fill cooling system as outlined.
