Cylinder Head Disassembly
FIGURE 17:
1. Loosen the EGR tube at the intake and exhaust manifolds.
2. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold attaching nuts (41) and remove the manifolds from the cylinder head (Fig. 17).
FIGURE 18:
3. Install holding tool Mot. 855 on the camshaft sprocket (42).
4. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt (43) and remove the sprocket (42).
FIGURE 19:
5. Remove the cam sprocket key (44).
6. Remove the mounting plate bolts (45) and remove the timing belt cover mounting plate (46).
FIGURE 20:
7. Remove the spark plugs (47) (Fig. 20).
8. Mark the camshaft bearing caps for assembly reference.
NOTE: Although the bearing caps are numbered according to front-back position on the head, they are not marked for sideto-side location.
9. Remove the camshaft bearing cap bolts
(48) and remove the bearing caps (Fig. 20).
FIGURE 21:
10. Remove the camshaft (49) (Fig. 21).
11. Remove and discard the camshaft front and rear oil seals. New seals will be used at assembly.
FIGURE 22:
12. Remove the valve tappets (50) and tappet shims (51) (Fig. 22). Note position of the tappets and shims for assembly reference.
FIGURE 23:
13. Compress the valve springs with a compressor tool (52) such as the Facom U43L, or an equivalent (Fig. 23).
FIGURE 24:
14. Remove the valve keepers (53). Then remove the retainers (54), valve springs (55), spring seats (56), valves (57) and the seals (58) (Fig. 24).
