1. Disconnect battery cables.
2. Drain cooling system at lower radiator hose and cylinder block drain plug (A), Fig. 2.
3. Drain engine oil and air conditioning system as necessary.
4. Remove radiator grille and upper crossmember of grille.
5. Remove radiator and cooling fan(s).
6. On air conditioning equipped vehicles, disconnect hoses from and remove radiator condenser and remove cooling fan.
7. Remove exhaust heat shields and catalytic converter.
8. Remove air intake hose.
9. Remove clutch cable and bracket.
10. Remove starter to transmission bolts.
11. Disconnect electrical connectors.
12. Disconnect power steering pump and hoses as an assembly and position out of way.
13. On air conditioning equipped vehicles, disconnect refrigerant lines between cooling system and compressor and cooling system and condenser.
14. Note location of and disconnect heater hoses, vacuum hoses, and emission control hoses.
15. Disconnect accelerator cable.
16. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, disconnect governor cable.
17. Disconnect fuel lines. Cap lines to prevent fuel tank from draining.
18. On speed control equipped vehicles, disconnect control cable.
19. Remove engine to transmission bolts.
20. Remove electronic ignition module.
21. Remove sensor on clutch or converter housing.
22. Remove flywheel or converter shield.
23. Remove drive plate to converter attaching bolts.
24. Install suitable lifting tool and raise engine until transmission touches steering crossmember, then secure transmission in this position.
25. Pull engine forward to disengage clutch shaft or converter hub and remove engine. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, be careful not to pull out converter while disengaging engine.
26. After disengaging engine, install tool B.Vi.465 or equivalent to prevent movement of converter.
27. Reverse procedure to install.
