Clutch: Service and Repair


1. Remove transaxle, and on Alliance, Encore and GTA models, remove clutch housing.
2. Evenly loosen pressure plate bolts, a few turns at a time, while supporting clutch assembly.
3. Remove pressure plate and disc.
4. Remove any dirt or grease from flywheel.
5. Position disc on flywheel with damper flange toward transaxle, then mount pressure plate on flywheel and hand tighten bolts.
6. Visually center disc or align disc with suitable pilot.
7. Evenly tighten pressure plate bolts until pressure plate is flush against flywheel, then torque bolts to 16.5 ft.lbs. on 4-85/1397cc engines or 23 ft.lbs. for all other engines
8. Using suitable lubricant, lightly lubricate diaphragm to release bearing contact surface.
