Cooling System: Service and Repair

Whenever the cooling system is opened, either due to a malfunction or during component service, the system must be refilled and purged of all air to ensure proper engine cooling. Refer to the following procedures when filling the cooling system.

1. Open bleed screw on radiator.
2. Slowly add coolant mixture to expansion tank until coolant flows from bleed screw, then tighten bleed screw.
3. Fill expansion tank to top, start engine and observe coolant level in expansion tank. Add coolant to tank if level drops, then install pressure cap.
4. Run engine until cooling fan cycles on and off 3 times, then stop engine.
5. Allow engine to cool, add coolant to expansion tank, as needed, to bring level to full mark, then install pressure cap.
