Clutch Cable: Adjustments
ALLIANCE, ENCORE & GTA
Clutch pedal free travel is maintained by a self adjusting release mechanism. The pedal return spring exerts constant pressure on release quadrant, maintaining tension on the release cable and holding the release bearing in constant contact with the pressure plate diaphragm.
When the clutch pedal is depressed, the notched cam engages teeth on the release quadrant, preventing the quadrant from pivoting and therefore pulling the clutch release cable. When the clutch pedal is released, the quadrant and cam ``ratchet,'' allowing spring tension to remove slack from the release cable.
