Throttle Enrichment, Decel System Information


WIDE OPEN THROTTLE ENRICHMENT, TURBO ONLY


SYSTEM FAILURE SYMPTOMS: Detonation when in boost. Hesitation or lean surge when accelerating or running with wide open throttle or engine speeds above 3800 RPM.

TEST

1. Reconnect the distributor primary circuit plug, fuel pump and pulse relays, thermo-time switch leads.

2. Unplug the oxygen sensor. Prevent the harness lead from touching body, leave disconnected until the end of the test.

3. With the engine idling, the pulse ratio indicated on the meter should lock on 75% when the lower throttle housing microswitch is closed.

4. Raise the engine speed slowly while watching the pulse ratio meter, at 3800 RPM the meter should lock on 75%.




5. If inoperative, check at the Lambda engine speed relay socket.

SYSTEM FAILURE SYMPTOMS: Stalling on deceleration.

TEST

1. Reinstall all relays

2. Start the engine and allow it to idle for two minutes. The decel system doesn't operate until the transient enrichment relay has cycled off.

3. Connect 12v test light from +12v to the RED wire on the decel solenoid located on the air flow sensor bellows.

4. Accelerate the engine to 1600 RPM and allow the throttle to close rapidly. The test light should come on and then off again as the engine speed drops below 1375 RPM as indicated on the car's tachometer. Simultaneously the pulse ratio meter should lock on 60% and then revert to 50%.




5. If inoperative, check at the decel relay socket with the engine running:

a. Test light connected to 12 volts

Pin 31 Ground
30 Grounded when the throttle is closed
X2 Test light will light at partial intensity after
120 seconds of operation

b. Test light connected to ground

Pin 31b Ignition dwell signal (test light will flicker)
15 +12v with the engine running
X1 Grounding this terminal will lock the Lambda system
on 60% when the engine is running
87 Jumping the terminal to ground should cause the engine
to stall by activating the decel solenoid.




END OF TEST. RECONNECT ALL RELAYS, OXYGEN SENSOR LEAD.
