Lack of Bass Response In Rear Speakers

On all 1992 9000 models up through VIN N1016651, a complaint of poor sound quality or lack of bass output may be remedied by making a wiring change to the rear speaker harness. The problem is located in the 6-pin connector at the rear speaker amplifier under the front passenger seat. If the wiring in this plug is incorrect, the rear speakers will be out of phase and strong bass response will be limited.

This PSI has been identified as a Service Directive, meaning that affected cars should be corrected before delivery if possible, or at the next service opportunity, regardless of whether there has been a customer complaint.

See PSI Service Directive 12/91-0162 for the repair procedure and correct wiring orientation. Some vehicles before the above mentioned VIN may have been corrected at the ports-of-entry. Check the wire positions before making a repair.
