Introduction
Saab is conducting a Service Campaign for the purpose of modifying the headlight wiring circuit to allow correct use of fog lights. The wiring specification of early 1987 900 models allows the fog lights to be switched on without the headlights or parking lights being switched on. This is not correct and the campaign corrects this condition. Fog lights should only operate in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlight low beams so that the tail lamps are lit.
All 900 models built after the VIN Serial Nos. listed on the next page (see Owner Notice) need no modification.
This Service Campaign addresses only those cars that are fitted standard with Saab Fog Lights (SPG, Leather Package, Convertible). Cars without fog lights are not part of this campaign but should nevertheless receive the same wiring modification if Saab Fog Lights are installed (see S.I. 11/86-905).
Purchasers of affected vehicles will receive the owner notice that we have reproduced on the next page. Owner notices will be mailed approximately one week after you receive your initial order of modification parts.
Shipments of initial supplies will begin on November 24, 1986, and will be equivalent to all of the affected cars handled by your dealership. Your status listing of cars is attached to this S.I.. Order additional parts for any early 1987 900's with velour interior on which you are installing fog lights at the customer's option.
Owner Notice
The Service Campaign notice pictured here will be mailed to the owners of the following 1987 Saab 900 SPG, Leather Package Cars and Convertibles:

The following parts will be shipped to your dealership in a quantity equal to the number of vehicles listed on your Status List.

Snap Connector (male) P/N 95-59-998

Warranty Information
Use a regular warranty claim as in all Saab Service Campaigns. Follow the claim instructions given when filling out the claim. No additional parts or labor time may appear on this claim.

Labor Allowance: Perform wiring modification. Use Labor Operation #10301 (0.3 hour).
Modification Instructions:
1. Remove the headlight switch from its socket and unplug the wire connector.
2. Pull the pre-installed fog light switch out of the dash facing. Unplug the fog light switch from its connector. Do not mar the dash facing when removing the switch.
3. Turn off ignition switch! Push out the green wire from position no. 7 of the fog light switch connector.
Cut off the terminal and insulate the bare end with electrical tape.
4. Attach Wire Lead 95-61-598 at the headlight switch socket (see drawing) with two piece snap connector 95-59- 998/95-60-004. Attach at the GN/RD wire.
Insert the terminal end of wire 95-61- 598 into position no. 7 of fog light switch connector.
5. Plug in both switches and refit into the dash facing.
Test your repair. The fog lights must only operate when the parking lights are on or when the headlights are on low beam.
6. Mark the Modification Plate as follows:
