Service Pump Installation Procedure

1. Connect the ejector pump and hose (with clip) to the return line fitting inside the tank. It may be necessary to apply a small amount of lubricant (silicone or petroleum jelly) to aid the fitting of the return line.

Ensure that the inlet side of the ejector pump is turned towards the bottom of the tank.

2. For 1988- models ONLY

Measure the depth of the tank. Adjust the height of the pump to the measurements as shown in Figure 1 by means of the rubber support. Trim the rubber support it necessary (Figure 2). Fit the support to the cannister.

3. Transfer the support ring from the old pump to the service pump (Figure 3).

4. Connect the ejector pump and return hose to the pump reservoir.

5. Fit the service pump inside the tank.

6. Align the pump so that the ejector pump is in the one o'clock position, looking towards the front of the car (Figure 4).

7. Fit the banjo fitting and seals to the fuel line and pump. Use a second 20 mm wrench to prevent the fitting on the pump from turning. Tighten to 30 N-m (22 ft.lbs.).

8. Connect the wiring to the fuel pump in one of the following ways:

A. If the terminals on the existing fuel pump wiring harness match those on the provided wiring adapter, remove the rubber casing from the terminals on the car harness. Remove the wires from the adapter connector casing and fit the car wiring harness terminals in the casing.

B. If the terminals on the existing fuel pump wiring harness do not match the terminals on the new service fuel pump, cut the ends off. Strip the ends of the wires and connect to the butt connectors on the wiring adapter.

C. Use the wiring from the feed pump. Unplug the connector from the electrical pass-through grommet in the top of the fuel tank.

Connect the leads to the fuel pump. Grey/red lead connects to the positive (+) side of the fuel pump.

Carefully insulate any wiring that is not utilized in the new fuel pump wiring configuration. Secure these wires to the wiring harness.

9. Add fuel back to the tank.

10. Reconnect the battery, install the fuel pump fuse, start the engine and check that the fuel system is functioning properly and not leaking.

11. Refit the covers and trunk floor that were removed to gain access to the pump.
