IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE - PLEASE READ SECOND NOTICE
FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR HOSE, SOME 1986-87 SAAB 900S & 900 TURBO VEHICLES Saab Recall No. 269, NHTSA No. 87V-013
Dear Saab Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Saab-Scania AB has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in late 1986 and early 1987 Saab 900S and 900 Turbo model vehicles. Our records indicate that you are the current owner of an affected vehicle. Previously, when this safety recall was first announced, we sent a similar notice/claim form mailer to you (or a Saab dealer, if the car was in inventory at the time). As of August, 1987 we have not received a dealer claim to indicate that this important recall work has been done. Please give this notice prompt attention.
Saab-Scania has found that, due to a dimensional fault, the rubber fuel hose between the pressure regulator and the injector fuel rail may be stressed in such a way it might rupture, resulting in a fuel leak and, possibly, a fire.
Saab-Scania of America, Inc. has made arrangements with its authorized Saab dealers replace the defective fuel hose without charge. This will take less than 1/2 hour to perform. Please call your Saab dealer for an appointment to have this done.
Bring this letter and the recall claim form enclosure to your dealer on the day of your appointment. When the work is completed, please be sure to sign the enclosed preprinted recall repair voucher in the space provided. This form must be submitted by your dealer to Saab-Scania of America, Inc. This is necessary to complete our recall records with respect to your vehicle and update our periodic recall reports to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In the meantime, if you begin to smell a strong odor of gasoline while driving, pull over to the side of the road as soon as it is possible and reasonably safe to do so. Promptly switch off the ignition and evacuate the vehicle. If there is any indication that a fire has started, the hood should be left shut. Call for emergency assistance. If you suspect that a fuel leak has occurred do not turn the ignition back on or attempt to restart the engine. Notify your dealer immediately. Do not attempt to make emergency repairs.
If you should experience difficulty in making arrangements for this work to be performed at no charge by your dealer, we urge you to call the Saab regional office nearest you (see letterhead). Our Consumer Relations Staff is available to assist you in resolving any such problem. You may submit a complaint to the Administrator, NHTSA, Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at 800-424- 9393 (Washington, D.C. area residents may call 426-0123), if you believe that SaabScania of America, Inc. or an authorized Saab dealer has failed or is unable to remedy this defect without charge or has failed or is unable to do so within a reasonable time, which is not longer than 60 days after you first bring your vehicle to your dealer for repair.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
