Selector Mechanism
The selector mechanism consists of the selector rod, actuators, selector forks, shafts and guide pin, ball and spring.1. 1st and 2nd selector fork

TO CHANGE THE SEAL AND PLASTIC BEARING ON THE SELECTOR ROD (Can be carried out either in the car or with the gearbox removed.)
To Remove
1. Tap out the front taper pin from the selector rod joint and separate the joint from the selector rod.
2. Drain the oil from the gearcase and remove the differential housing cover. If only the seal is to be replaced, the oil need not be drained and the cover need not be removed.
3. Thread tool 87 90 677 over the collar of the seal and screw in the screw towards the rod.
4. Use a screwdriver between the tool and one of the differential housing bolt heads to prise off the seal.
5. The plastic bearing is now accessible for removal.
To Fit
1. Fit the plastic bearing.
2. Use tool 87 90 685 and a suitable hammer to fit the new seal.
3. Fit the differential housing cover.
4. Assemble the selector rod and universal joint, and fit the taper dowel.
5. Fill the gearcase with oil.
NOTE: Before fitting, remove any scratches and marks on the projecting part of the selector rod.
