6/78331

Fault Code 6/78331

Malfunction indicated
Short circuit in the KDW motor output stage

Fault symptom
TCS CTRL tamp on, no KDW control, Cruise Control not working, full booster pressure unobtainable, rougher shifting.

Test procedure

1 Check that the KD wire is not binding and can move easily.

2 With the ignition off and the ASR control unit disconnected, use a BOB to check the KDW motor's resistance across sockets 23 and 24. Slowly rotate the motor's lever as far as it will go. Regardless of the position of the lever, the resistance should be higher than 2.0 ohms.

Note: Only the resistance readings obtained when the lever is held stationary should be compared with the specification.

If the resistance is correct, continue with point 4.
If resistance readings lower than 2.0 Ohms are obtained, continue with point 3.

3 Unplug the connector from the KDW motor and check the resistance across pins 1 and 7 of the motor's socket. (It will be easier to do this if the motor is removed from the mounting bracket.) Slowly rotate the motor's lever as far as it will go and measure the resistance in the same way as in point 2.
If the resistance is lower than 2.0 Ohms at any point, change the KDW motor/potentiometer.

4 Check the BU/WH lead between pin 23 of the ASR control unit and pin 7 of the KDW motor for continuity or shorting to earth.
Check the WH lead between pin 24 of the ASR control unit and pin 1 of the KDW motor for continuity or shorting to earth.

5 Try an ASR control unit which is known to be OK.
