Removal









1. Loosen the expansion tank cap and raise the car.
2. Remove the center air deflector, place a drip tray under the radiator and open the radiator drain plug. Lower the car.
3. Remove the expansion tank by undoing the clip.
4. Remove the lower coolant hose from the expansion tank. Unplug the engine coolant level sensor electrical connection.
5. Pull hard on the multigroove belt and lock the belt tensioner using tool 83 94 488, or equivalent. Remove the belt from the A/C compressor and coolant pump pulleys.
6. Protect the engine oil cooler and place some kind of protection over the upper radiator crossmember.
7. Unplug the A/C compressor electrical connection and detach the A/C compressor and move it to one side. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.
8. Detach the coolant hoses from the coolant pump.
9. Remove the oxygen sensor cable clips.
10. Remove the coolant pipe from the turbocharger and raise the car.
11. Remove the coolant pipe from the coolant pump and lower the car.
12. Remove the three retaining screws securing the coolant pump to the timing cover.
13. Carefully pry the coolant pump loose. Start at the sleeve in the cylinder block and remove the coolant pump.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the oxygen sensor.

14. Remove the coolant pump pulley and take the pump out of its housing.
