With Traction Control System (TCS)

Adjusting Kick-Down Cable

Note: This adjustment should be carried out before calibration.

1 From the end of 92 (transmission number 17415O-) a modified kick-down cable has been fitted, with the end protector removed and better lubrication. Around the same time (from chassis number P1020737), the bracket for the kick-down cable motor (KDW motor) was reinforced. If this reinforced bracket is used on older cars, the omega clip should NOT be fitted.

2 Push the KDW motor lever fully away from the outer cable adjusting clip.

3 Check that the lever reaches the mechanical stop on the KDW motor at the same time as the cable reaches its mechanical stop in the transmission.

If OK:
- Proceed to point 5.

If not OK:
- Proceed to point 4.

4 Detach the outer cable clip and move the outer cable to comply with point 3.

Then proceed to point 5.

5 Check that the cable and its casing are straight. If necessary, the cable casing holder is bent so that the cable and cable casing are aligned.

Then calibrate TCS.

Calibrating TCS

1 Connect the ISAT scan tool. Note and erase any diagnostic trouble codes.

2 Run the engine to normal operating temperature.

Note: If the engine will not run at idling, use SAT scan tool code 974.

3 Enter ISAT scan tool code 971 for basic setting.

4 Observe the KDW motor while carrying out basic setting. The KDW motor should move.

5 Enter SAT scan tool code 973 and check that the TCS CTRL lamp lights.

Then start the engine. Do not touch any other controls.

6 Check the TCS CTRL lamp.

When the lamp flashes, press the SET button on the cruise control and hold it down until the lamp goes out.

7 Engine speed should increase to 3000 rpm and then drop back to idling.

Note: After calibration, always check if there are any diagnostic trouble codes.

8 Test drive the car. If shifting quality is still not OK, preform Extra Adjustment.

Extra Adjustment

This adjustment is carried out if shifting quality is still not OK after calibration has been completed.

1 With the engine switched off, turn the actuator motor lever to wide open throttle position.

Note: Wide open throttle position can be felt just before the kick-down position.

2 Measure and note cable extension between the metal end of the cable casing and the cable fork which attaches the cable to the lever. This noted value = wide open throttle measurement.

3 Start the engine and run it at idling speed. Measure again the cable extension between the metal end and the fork and also note this measurement. This noted value = fully closed throttle measurement.

4 Subtract the fully closed throttle measurement from the wide open throttle measurement, i.e. wide open throttle measurement - fully closed throttle measurement and note this value which should be 39.0 +1/-0 mm.

5 Any adjustment is made by undoing the nut securing the cable casing and then pulling the casmg towards the actuator motor. After adjustment, the nut should be tightened to 6 ± 1 Nm.

Note: Make sure that the cable attachment is not bent when adjusting and tightening the cable casing.

6 Check cable extension again and repeat adjustment if necessary.
