Gear Lever Housing

NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.





1. Remove the gear lever gaiter and unscrew the screw which holds the gaiter's mounting frame.
- Lift out the mounting frame.
2. Unscrew the two front screws which hold the gear lever console.
3. Remove the hand brake lead-through.
4. Remove the switch console for the window regulators by pressing from below on the console.
- Remove the connector.
5. Push the two front seats forward and remove the rear screws on the gear lever console.
6. Lift out the gear lever console.
7. Remove the side trim from the center console.





8. Release the safety wire on cars with airbags.
9. Unscrew the screw and push back the rear air duct.
10. Remove the clip for the front air duct from the heater housing and push it towards the bulkhead panel.
11. Remove the lever from the selector shaft.
12. Remove the four screws on the gear lever housing.
- Lift out the gear lever housing.
13. Remove the three clips and remove the lever.





Installation
1. Press the gear lever into the gear lever housing.
- Make sure the clips lock properly.
2. Secure the gear lever housing with the screws.
- Tightening torque 8.6 Nm (77 inch lbs.)
3. Assemble gear lever and selector shaft.
- Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ft. lbs.)
4. Pull back the front air duct and install it into the heater housing.
- Install an expansion rivet.
5. Connect the front and rear air ducts and tighten the screw which holds the rear air duct.
6. Install the safety wire on cars with airbags.
- Tightening torque 1-1.5 Nm (8-13 inch lbs.)





7. Install the gear lever console and the hand brake lead-through.
8. Reconnect the connectors on the switch panel for the window regulators.
- Install the switch panel in the console.
9. Install the side trims.
10. Install the gear lever gaiter's mounting frame and install the gaiter.
