Calibration of TCS, Automatic

Calibration of TCS, automatic

Calibration must always be carried out in conjunction with the following:
^ On service occasion 1.
^ Replacement of the ECU, throttle housing or pedal sensor. When any of these components is changed, the settings previously adapted by the system will no longer be valid.
^ On completion of major work on the engine or gearbox.

Note: Calibration can of course also be carried out in conjunction with other service work.

First adjust the kick-down wire.
Before starting calibration, always adjust the kickdown wire as follows:
a. Remove the end seal, if fitted, from the wire sheathing (not to be refitted) and remove the safety clip.
b. Undo the clamp securing the wire sheathing (the wire should be connected to the lever on the KDW motor).
c. Turn the lever as far as it will go towards the right-hand side of the car. Hold it in this position while carrying out point d.
d. Now pull the wire sheathing past the kick-down position to it the mechanical full-throttle stop in the transmission.
e. Secure the wire sheathing by means of the clamp without releasing it from the full-throttle position.

Calibration procedure
1 Start by warming up the engine to normal operating temperature.
If a new basic selling is required to enable the engine to run, enter ISAT command code 974 and continue warming up the engine.
2 Switch off the engine and connect ISAT to the black diagnostics socket.
Make sure that adapter cable with capacitor, part No.86 11 048, is plugged into the socket.
3 Start the engine and run it at idling speed.
4 Select DIAG and ONE from the ISAT menu and then enter system 3.
5 Check whether any fault codes are still stored in the memory. If there are any, deal with them first and then clear them.

6 To select the basic setting before calibration, enter command code 971.
ISAT will now display 8A971.
While waiting for the basic selling to be made (at least 30 seconds), check that the actuator motor makes a full stroke.
The kick-Down Wire is pulled all the way out (to the mechanical stop in the transmission) and then back to the motor's stop position. Finally, the motor pulls the wire out to the KD position, which constitutes a reference point for calibration of the system.
(Note that the above order is slightly different on TCS-cars with an earlier version of the ECU software).
On completion of calibration, ISAT will display 8D971 to indicate that the basic selling has been made and the system is ready for calibration.
7 Refit the safety clip (withdrawal stop) on the wire.
8 Reestablish communication with the ISAT. With the ignition switch in the Drive position but with the engine switched off, enter command code 973.
9 As soon as the TCS CTRL lamp lights up, start the engine without turning the ignition switch back to the 0 position and without touching the pedals.
Calibration will now be carried out at idling speed and also at about 3000 rpm.
10 When engine speed stabilizes at around 850 rpm, the TCS CTRL lamp will start to flash. Press the SET button on the Cruise Control and keep it pressed until the TCS CTRL lamp goes out (indicating that calibration has been completed).

Note:
Calibration will be not be completed:
^ If any of the pedals is depressed or if the car is moved
^ If any of the pedal switches is defective
^ If the selector lever is moved
^ The SET button is pressed too late (more than 10 seconds after the TCS CTRL lamp has started to flash)
^ The SET button is pressed before the lamp has started to flash
^ The SET button is released before the lamp has stopped flashing, i.e. before calibration has been completed
^ The SET function is faulty

11 The TCS CTRL lamp goes out when calibration has been completed.
Terminate communication and switch off the engine.Check whether any fault code has been set during the calibration process.
12 Disconnect the ISAT.
