Note: Before the throttle housing is removed, basic adjustment of the motor must be carried out by means of command code 974.
This is to prevent existing settings from causing trouble when the new throttle housing is fitted. In the worst case, the throttle housing could be ruined.

Basic adjustment
^ Connect an ISAT to the black diagnostics socket using adapter cable 86 11 048.
^ Turn the ignition switch to the Drive position
^ Enter system 3 (F1+F2+#3+ON/ENTER).
^ Select the correct menu on the ISAT and enter command code 974 (ESC+ALT+F3+974+ON/ENTER).
^ When the ISAT shows 8A974, switch off the ignition.

1 Drain off enough coolant to lower the level in the system to below the throttle housing.
2 Disconnect the two coolant hoses from the throttle housing.
3 Disconnect the rubber elbow for the intake air and tuck it to one side.
4 Disconnect the two signal hoses.
5 Remove the two clips and disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle housing.
6 Unplug the connector.
7 Remove the lower retaining nut on the throttle housing.
8 Remove the lower retaining bolt and swivel the steady bar out of the way.
9 Remove the throttle housing retaining nuts.
10 Lift off the housing. Collect the O-rings.
On replacement of the throttle housing, transfer the throttle cable to the new housing.




To fit
1 Fit the o-ring in place.
2 Fit the throttle housing in position and screw on the upper retaining nuts without tightening them.
3 Fit the steady bar and the lower retaining nut. Tighten all retaining nuts and the retaining bolt for the steady bar.
4 Plug in the connector.
5 Connect the throttle cable and fit the clips in place.
6 Reconnect the two signal hoses (the top one is from the safety valve on the bulkhead partition and the bottom one from the control valve for the turbo by-pass valve on the wheel housing panel).
7 Refit the rubber elbow.
8 Reconnect the coolant hoses.
9 Top up the coolant level.
10 Recalibrate the system. Calibration of TCS
