Speed Signal

The speedometer sends a speed signal to pin 9 of the Motronic control module. This signal is a square wave which varies between 0 V and battery positive voltage. At 30 km/h its frequency is about 20 Hz.

The speed signal is used to determine which gear is currently engaged.

On cars with a manual gearbox the fuel cut-off function is not activated in first gear.
