Engine Fails to Start

ENGINE FAILS TO START, QUICK TEST WITH TEST LAMP

1. Check that the following fuses are intact:
- 23 (+30 supply for the control module)
- 13 (+15 supply for the control module)
- 14 (fuel pump power supply from fuel pump relay)

2. Ignition switch in the ON position.
Check that the CHECK ENGINE (MIL) lamp lights up and stays on. Also check the fuel level.

If the CHECK ENGINE lamp does not light up, there is no +15 supply present on pin 27 or +30 supply present on pin 18 of the control module.

Continue with "DTC P1500" at "Diagnostic Charts/Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts. P1500

3. Run the starter motor.
Check that the CHECK ENGINE lamp goes out when the starter motor is in use.

If the CHECK ENGINE does not go out, the control module is not receiving information from the crankshaft position sensor.

Continue with "DTC P0322" at "Diagnostic Charts/Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts. [1][2]P Code Charts

4. Ignition switch in the ON position.
Connect the test lamp to pins 1 and 3 of the camshaft position sensor's connector. The test lamp should light up.

If it does not, continue with "Main Relay" at "Diagnosis Without Trouble Codes". Main Relay

5. Ignition switch in the ON position. Connect the test lamp to pin 4 of the ignition coil module's connector and a good ground. The test lamp should light up.

If it does not, check the lead between pin 4 of the ignition coil module and terminal block 159.

6. Remove fuse 14.
Connect the test lamp across the fuse. Run the starter motor. The test lamp should light up.

If it does not, see "Fuel Pump Relay" at "Diagnosis Without Trouble Codes". Fuel Pump Relay, Fuel Pump

7. Check the following:
- As in step 4, that pin 6 of connector H10-26 is supplied with power from the main relay.
- That fuel pressure is present.
