Fuel Pump Relay, Fuel Pump
FAULT DIAGNOSIS, FUEL PUMP RELAY/FUEL PUMP
Fault Symptom.
Engine fails to start.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Check fuse 14 (fuel pump).
2. Check the operation of the fuel pump.
Force the fuel pump to operate by connecting a jumper lead across fuses 10 and 14.
Listen for the sound of the fuel pump working.
If the fuel pump works, continue with step 3.
If it does not, proceed to step 4.
3. Remove the relay board and take out the fuel pump relay.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
Connect a jumper lead across pins 30 and 87 of the relay base.
If the fuel pump works, fit a new fuel pump relay.
If the fuel pump does not work, connect the test lamp to pin 30 and a good ground to check the power supply when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
If the lamp does not light up, check the lead between pin 30 of the fuel pump relay and distribution terminal 230.
If the lamp lights up, check the lead between pin 87 of the fuel pump relay and fuse 14.
4. Check the fuel pump.
Unplug connector H4-4 located adjacent to the fuel pump.
NOTE: The right connector is the one with the thick cables.
The others are connected to the level sensor.
Connect the test lamp to pins 1 and 2 of the 4-pin male connector.
The male connector is part of the wiring harness.
Run the starter motor and check whether the fuel pump receives power.
- The test lamp should light up.
If it does, change the fuel pump.
If the test lamp does not light up, first check and possibly remedy the lead between pin 2 and grounding step G5 and then, if necessary, the lead between pin 1 and fuse 14.
