FAULT DIAGNOSIS, INJECTORS

Fault Symptom.
Engine runs on only five cylinders.

NOTE: Diagnostic trouble codes P1011,P1012, P1021, P1022, P1031, P1032, P1041, P1042, P1051, P1052, P1061 and P1062 will be generated when the control module output (pins 17, 16, 35, 34, 15 or 33) is open or shorted to ground/batt+.

The diagnostic trouble code is generated by electrical faults.
Fault diagnosis in this section deals with mechanical faults.

Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Connect the Scan Tool.
Start the engine and run it at idling speed.
Ascertain which of the cylinders is not working by disconnecting one injector at a time.
Select "INITIATE".
Select "TURN OFF INJECTOR" for each individual cylinder.
Listen to the engine and observe it to identify the offending cylinder.





2. When the defective injector has been pin stepped, carry out flow measurement.

If the results of flow measurement are not OK, fit a new injector.
If the flow measurement results are OK, continue with step 3.

3. Drive the car on test to check whether the fault symptoms persist.
