Throttle Position, Output Signal
FAULT DIAGNOSIS, THROTTLE POSITION, OUTPUT SIGNAL TO TCS CONTROL MODULE
Fault Symptom.
Diagnostic trouble code B1406 B1407 or B1408 generated In the TCS control module.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Connect the Scan Tool.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
Obtain readouts of all Motronic trouble codes.
NOTE: Check whether P0122 or P0123 is stored. These trouble codes are electrical faults in the throttle position sensor. The CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) should be on.
Deal with diagnostic trouble code PO122 or Po123 first.
Continue fault diagnosis in the Traction Control System (TCS).
:
2. Connect a BOB to the TCS system. Do not connect the TCS control module.
Start the engine and check the output signal from pin 54 of the Motronic control module.
Take a voltage reading across pins 11 and 13:
- at idling speed _____ about 9 % (+)
0.9 ms (+)
1.1 V
100 Hz
- at 2500 rpm ____ about 15 % (+)
1.5 ms (+)
2.0 V
100 Hz
If the signal is not OK, check the lead between pin 54 of the Motronic control module and pin 11 of the TCS control module for continuity/shorting.
If the lead is OK, continue at "Procedure Before ECM Replacement". Component Tests
If the signal is OK, continue with step 3.
3. Clear the trouble code, drive the car on test and check whether the trouble code is generated again.
If the trouble code is generated again, continue fault diagnosis in the Traction Control System.
If the trouble code is not generated again the remedial measure taken was correct, otherwise the fault is of the intermittent type.
