Exhaust Crossover Pipe: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor cables, undo the cable clamps and the clips and raise the car.

CAUTION: Do not twist the cables. The oxygen sensor is sensitive to blows and impacts and must be handled with care.

2. Remove the oxygen sensors, one for each cylinder bank.
3. Undo the joint between the front pipe and the three-way catalytic converter. Unhook the rubber hanger from the body.
4. Unbolt the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifolds and lift down the pipe.

CAUTION: There are gaskets between the exhaust manifolds and the front pipe.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean the joints.
2. Thread in the new front pipe section and bolt it to the exhaust manifolds. Use new gaskets. Tightening torque 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
3. Bolt together the joint under the car and hook up the rubber hanger.
4. Fit the oxygen sensors. Before fitting, the threads should be lubricated with MOLYCOTE 1000, or equivalent. Tightening torque 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).

CAUTION: The oxygen sensor is sensitive to blows and impacts and must be handled with care. It is important that the connection between the oxygen sensor and the nipple are gas-tight.

5. Lower the car and connect the oxygen sensor cables.
