Heat Shield: Description and Operation

Galvanized heat shields are fitted over the most heat intensive parts of the exhaust system in order to protect exposed parts from heat radiation from the exhaust system. The number of heat shields depends on which motor model the system is fitted to. One is fitted in and under the engine oil tray and one is located above the intermediate muffler. In addition, engine types with catalyst have heat shields over the catalyst and the pipe to the intermediate muffler.
