Quick Test With Lamp

Fault Symptom.
Engine fails to start.

Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Check the fuses
- Check that the following fuses are intact:
^ 23 (+30 circuit, control module power supply)
^ 14 (fuel pump relay, power supply for fuel pump)

Are the fuses intact?

YES: Continue with point 2.
NO: Change any blown fuses and start the engine. Drive the car and check whether the fuses blow.

2. Check the control module's power supply
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Check the fuel level.
- Check that the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) lights up and stays on.

Is the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on?

YES: Continue with point 3.
NO: The control module has no power supply from the +15 or +30 circuits. Continue fault diagnosis at the Remote-controlled anti-theft alarm.

3. Check the performance of the crankshaft position sensor
- The diagnostic trouble code, if any, which causes the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) to light up must be cleared with the ISAT scan tool.
- Run the starter motor,
- Check whether the, CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) goes out during starter motor cranking.

Did the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) go out?

YES: Continue with point 4.
NO: If the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) did not go out, the control module is receiving no information from the crankshaft position sensor. Carry out fault diagnosis under as described for diagnostic trouble code P0336,

4. Check the power supply from the main relay
- Unplug the IAC valve's 3-pin connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Connect the test lamp to pin 2 and battery negative (B-).

The lamp should light up.

Test lamp on?

YES: Continue with point 5.
NO: See main relay fault diagnosis.

5. Check the ignition coil module's power supply
- Unplug the ignition coil module's 4-pin connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Connect the test lamp to pin 4 and battery negative (B-).

The test lamp should light up.

Test lamp on?

YES: Continue with point 6.
NO: Repair or replace the lead between the +15 circuit terminal block 159 via pin 23 of connector H70-1.

6. Check the fuel pump circuit
- Remove fuse 14.
- Connect the test lamp to both sides of the fuse.
- Run the starter motor.

The test lamp should light up.

Test lamp on?

YES: Check the fuel pressure.
NO: Check fault diagnosis for the fuel pump relay.
