Throttle Cable/Linkage: Adjustments
1. Move the control lever to the wide open throttle position and fit special tool 87 92 459 in the control lever bracket's right-hand hole, allowing the control lever to rest against the tool.
The kickdown cable should be tensioned but not so hard that the kickdown function would have been activated if the car had been driven on the road.
Pull the kickdown cable by hand to check that it is at, and not past, the kickdown position "threshold".
2. Move the tool to the left-hand hole in the bracket (closed throttle position) and allow the control arm to rest against it.
3. Lift the throttle cable off the control lever.
Adjust the control rod (between the control lever and throttle spindle).
Adjust the control rod until the control lever is just clear of the tool.
Tighten the locknuts (the locknut by the throttle body has a left-hand thread).
4. Connect the throttle cable.
Adjust the throttle cable until there is a little slack in it. Look at the control lever and turn the adjusting device.
When the throttle cable is in its position of rest, the control lever should also be in its position of rest.
5. On the front of the control lever bracket (undeneath) is an adjusting screw. This screw should be adjusted so that the stop on the throttle body is 0.3 mm from the end position when the control lever is in the wide open throttle position. Check the clearance using a feeler gauge.
6. Remove the special tool.
The Cruise Control cable has no means of adjustment.
WARNING: The engine must not be started as long as the special tool is fitted.
