Bearing
NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.Removal
NOTE: The transmission must be dismantled up to the output shaft.
1. Remove the tapered bearing from the output shaft drive. Use puller ring tool No. 87 91 691, screwed into puller tool No. 87 91 642 with support tool No. 89 95 177 as a holder, or equivalents.
2. Remove the tapered bearing from the output shaft.
Use puller and puller ring tool with drift tool No. 87 91 410 as a holder, or equivalents.
Installation
1. Press the tapered roller bearing onto the output shaft.
Use a press and sleeve tool No. 87 92 202, or equivalent.
NOTE:
^ Place on a suitable surface.
^ Do not press against the outer edges of the drum.
2. Press the tapered roller bearing onto the output shaft drive.
Use sleeve tool in a press.
3. There are two designs of the output shaft bearing housing. One has detachable bearing races and the other has bearing races which are machined directly in the bearing housing.
BEARING HOUSING WITH DETACHABLE BEARING RACES
- Tap out the bearing races and then press in new bearing races. Use the old bearing. races to press in the new ones.
BEARING HOUSING WITH MACHINED BEARING RACES
- Change bearing housing.
