Shift Cable: Service and Repair

NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.





Removal
1. Detach the battery leads and remove the battery.
2. Remove the battery tray.
3. Set the selector lever to neutral.
4. Detach the selector cable from the transmission.
5. Remove lefthand and righthand side trim.
6. Remove the front air duct.
7. Remove the lower storage pocket.
8. Remove selector lever covers and release buttons.
9. Remove the gear indicator cover and unplug the indicator lamp.
10. Detach the gear selector cable from the gear selector bracket.
11. Remove the gear selector cable.





Installation
1. Install the gear selector cable with rubber grommet.
2. Install the selector cable to the selector cable bracket.
3. Lightly lubricate the selector arm ball and install the selector cable to the transmission.
- Rubber mounted selector cable. is attached with clips.
- Tightening torque, rubber grommet: 7-9 Nm.

NOTE:
^ Do not lubricate the selector cable cup.
^ If there is grease in the cup, the ball may become detached.

4. Install the gear indicator cover and indicator lamp.
5. Install selector lever covers and release buttons.
6. Install the storage pocket.
7. Install the air duct.
8. Install lefthand and righthand side trim.
9. Install the battery tray.
10. Install battery and leads.
11. Adjust the selector cable
