Torque Converter Case (Housing)

NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.





Removal
1. Remove the transmission from the car, refer to Replacement.
- Use retainer tool No. 87 92 293, or equivalent, to secure the torque converter.
2. Set up the transmission in a work stand using holder tool No. 87 91 469, or equivalent.
3. Lift out the torque converter using the grips, tool 87 91 766, or equivalent.
4. Remove the torque converter housing.

Installation
1. Move parts from the old housing to the new one if they are undamaged.
- The fluid seal ring must always be changed.
2. Clean gasket surfaces.
- Install new gasket and assemble gear case and torque converter housing.
3. Install the torque converter using the grips.
- Secure the torque converter using retainer tool.
- After the torque converter housing has been changed, the differential shims must be changed.
4. Install the transmission in the car.
