Pinion Bearing Automatic Transaxle
NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.NOTE: The transmission must be dismantled up to the pinion shaft.
Disassembly
1. Pull off the pinion shaft bearing race using puller tool No. 87 91 683 and holder tool No. 87 91 675, or equivalents.
2. Pull the tapered roller bearing from the gearwheel.
- Use basic puller tool No. 87 91 642 and puller ring 87 91 832 as well as holder, tool No. 89 95 177, or equivalents.
3. Press the roller bearings off the pinion shaft.
- Use a press, fixture tool No. 87 90 636 and press ring tool No. 87 91 634 for 20 teeth gears or tool No. 87 91 832 for 21 teeth gears, or equivalents.
NOTE: In order to facilitate pressing and to avoid damage to the pinion shaft, ease off the compression and turn the shaft in the tool several times.
Assembly
1. Press the tapered roller bearings onto the pinion shaft gear wheel.
- Use installing sleeve tool No. 87 92 202, or equivalent, and a press.
2. Press the tapered roller bearings onto the pinion shaft.
- Use installing ring tool No. 87 90 982, or equivalent, in a press.
3. Install both the pinion shaft bearing races and drive them in using a plastic hammer.
- It may be necessary to heat the gear case.
4. Install the pinion shaft in the transmission and adjust pinion preload
