Reverse Gear Inoperative






FAULT SYMPTOM
- Reverse gear not working.
- Slipping or vibration when the car starts moving.
- Harsh engagement or jerking when the selector lever is moved from position P or N to position R at engine speeds below 1500 RPM.
- Reversing lights not working despite electrical system being OK.

ACTION

NOTE: Fill in the test form. When returning items, the test form should be included.

1. Selecting symptom.
Choose between the following symptoms.
- Reverse gear not working:
Proceed to point 2.
- Slipping or vibration when the car starts moving:
Proceed to point 3.
- Reversing lights not working despite the electrical system being OK:
Fault in starting interlock switch.
Check and, if necessary, change the starting interlock switch.
- Harsh engagement or jerking when the selector lever is moved from position P or N to position R at engine speeds below 1500 RPM:
Fault in spring, accumulator D in valve body.
Change the spring.
2. Reverse gear not working.
Investigate following causes.
- Control or cable between selector lever and transmission incorrectly adjusted:
Check and, if necessary, adjust.
- Fluid strainer blocked:
Change fluid strainer.
- Fault in clutch B:
Check and, if necessary, change clutch B.
- Fault in brake D, no engine braking with gear in position 1:
Check and, if necessary, change. brake D.
Check especially the rings.
- Governor seizing:
Clean or change the governor.
- Lock-up valve 1+R is not in the correct position:
The valve is in the valve body.
Clean or change the valve body.
3. Slipping or vibration when the car starts to move.
Investigate following causes.
- Clutch B or brake D damaged
Check clutch B and brake D.
Change parts as necessary.
- Fluid supply circuit to clutch B leaking:
Check seals on partition plate on pump.
- Bushing in clutch B blocking fluid supply:
Check and, if necessary, change cylinder B.
