Kick-Down Cable and Throttle Cable
NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.WARNING: The engine must not be started when the adjusting tool is installed.
1. Turn the control arm to wide open throttle position and insert adjusting tool No. 87 92 459, or equivalent, in the righthand hole on the control bracket. Let the control armrest against the tool.
The kick-down cable should be under tension, but not so much that kick-down would be activated if the car were being driven. Check that the cable is at and not past the "threshold" for kickdown by pulling it with your hand.
2. Move the tool to the lefthand hole in the bracket (fully closed throttle position) and let the control arm rest against the tool.
3. Lift off the throttle cable from the control arm.
Adjust the control rod between the control arm and throttle shaft.
Adjust the control rod sufficiently so that the control arm just leaves the tool. Do up the locknuts.
NOTE: The locknut beside the throttle body has a lefthand thread.
4. Connect the throttle cable.
Adjust the throttle cable so that there is a small amount of slack in it. Watch the control arm and turn the adjusting mechanism.
When the throttle cable is in resting position, the control arm should also be in its resting position.
5. On the front of the control bracket (underneath) is an adjusting screw which should be adjusted so that the stop lug on the throttle body is no more that 0.3 mm from its end position when the control arm is in wide open throttle position. Check clearance using a feeler gauge.
6. Remove the tool.
The cruise controllable has no adjusting mechanism.
