Left-Hand


Shaft Seal
To Remove
1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.





2. Remove the drive shaft from the gearbox with removing tool 87 92 616.
3. Remove the clips for the brake hose and the mountings for the ABS cable.
4. Remove the screw securing the ball joint to the steering swivel member. Pry loose and lower the suspension arm.
Fixate it in position with a wooden block placed between the suspension arm and anti-roll bar.
5. Swing the wheel to the right to facilitate removing the drive shaft. Grab hold of the MacPherson strut and pull. The drive shaft will follow.
Then lower it in front of the suspension arm.

IMPORTANT: Position a container under the gearbox to avoid oil spills on the floor.





6. Remove the seal with puller 87 92 350 and puller 87 91 683


To Fit





1. Tap in the new seal with drift 87 92 657 Lubricate the seal with gearbox oil, see
2. Fit protective collar 83 95 162 in the sealing ring.
3. Make sure that the drive shaft is clean and then fit the drive shaft in the tool.

IMPORTANT: Fit the drive shaft in the gearbox until approximately 20 mm remain and pull out the tool before the shaft sealing surface reaches the shaft seal.





4. Push in the rest of the shaft until the circlip clicks in.
5. Fit the ball joint to the steering swivel member and tighten.
Tightening torque 100 +45 (74 ft. lbs.)

WARNING: Make sure that the steering spindle journal is visible above the steering swivel member before the screw is fitted.

6. Fit the brake line in the mounting on the steering swivel member and fit the clip as well as the two mountings for the ABS let
7. Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts.
Tightening torque 110 Nm (80 ft. lbs.)

IMPORTANT: The wheel must hang freely when the wheel bolts are being tightened.

8. Fill oil in the gearbox to the correct level.

Replacement Of O-Ring In Car
To Remove
1. Remove the wheel.
2. For removing the drive shaft, refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints, Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type.
3. Remove the seal retainer.





4. Change O-ring.

To Fit





1. Fit the seal retainer.
2. For fitting of the drive shaft, refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints, Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type.
