Lighting - Moisture In Rear Lamps

Moisture in the outer rear lamp

Cars affected
Saab 9-5 5D M06-07 within Vehicle Identification Number range 63500001 - 73510197.

Background

The outer rear lamp's ventilation is inadequate and cannot vent the moisture from the lamp. In order to improve the ventilation the earlier one-way silicone valve has been replaced by two open labyrinth valves.

In the case of customer complaint, the following procedure must be carried out.

Symptom description

Moisture in the outer rear lamp.

Parts required

12 778 967 Bulb socket (left)
12 778 966 Bulb socket (right)

Procedure

NOTE:
It is only the bulb socket that shall be replaced, not the rear lamp assembly.

1. Open the tailgate.

2. Remove the rear lamp:





- Remove the screws (A).

- Remove the rear lamp by pulling it backwards.

- Unplug the connector (B) from the rear lamp.

3. Replace the bulb socket:





- Remove the bulb socket (A).

- Transfer the bulbs to the new bulb socket.

- Dry the moisture from the rear lamp. Use compressed air, a hot-air gun or similar.

NOTE:
Take care not to damage the rear lamp if a hot air gun is used for example.

- Fit the new bulb socket (A).

4. Fit the rear lamp:





- Plug in the connector (A).


- Press the lamp into the clip (B).
- Fit the light cluster in place and fit the screws (C).

5. Close the tailgate.
