Pedal position data is sent by the engine management system over the Polls. See also Pedal sensor

The ESP control module uses the information on pedal position to determine the degree of wheel spin to allow during ESP/TCS modulation. The system considers the pedal position to be the degree of aggressiveness the driver requests and allows a greater degree of wheel spin the more the pedal is depressed (pedal position increases as a percentage).
